Lord Krishna in the vigraha form Sri Radha assume the form of lord Jagganath. It is Radha viraha vigraha
Lord Chaitanya is Krishna Himself, in the separation mood of Śrī Radha.

So during Jagannath’s Ratha‑yatra, it is Lord Krishna Himself, in the mood of Radharani, who pulls His own form as Jagannath.

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu — in the mood of Radha’s separation, Krishna placed Jagannath, Baladeva, and Subhadra on the chariot and brought Them to Vrindavan, pulling the chariot along with the gopas and gopīs.
Because Krishna had promised to return to Vrindavan but did not come back, after 100 years — after the Mahabharata war — the people of Vrindavan brought Him back.
This is the true meaning of Ratha‑yatra.

In Kali‑yuga, 500 years ago, Krishna Himself accepted the form of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the embodiment of Radha’s separation, and He performed the same divine pastime again.
Even today, the Lord continues this līlā.

All the souls who wander in ghostly or lower species and cannot come to the temple are gathered under the Ratha chariot (the ceremonial canopy).
After the yatra ends, the water pot breaks the water inside the kalasha sanctified water is given to them to drink, by which they are liberated.
