Question / opinion with Vehicle Issue
Location: Virginia
I’ll try and keep this as brief as possible, I currently own a truck that will no longer pass inspection in Virginia. My county is safety only, however they now do some form of emissions; it’s passed previous years without issue but now fails for emissions. The cost to repair the vehicle to compliance exceeds its total value.
I also own several competition enduro type dirt bikes that Virginia dmv just plain refused to title, I have them titled thru an online service under a Montana LLC (Montana tags). This service also offers the option to also title a vehicle which would avoid the inspection issue all together.
What are the potential drawbacks or legal issues to doing this with a truck? What specific law code, if any, could this be in violation of? From googling it seems a gray area, which I wasn’t even aware of with the bikes. It’s fairly commonplace to utilize the service I did who specialize in titling dirt vehicles some states just refuse to.
From what I’ve learned googling, When it comes to vehicles most seem to do it to avoid tax on high dollar sports cars, I’ve already paid sales tax (twice) on this vehicle and county tax for 11 years before it depreciated.
Thank you for any input!
