My aunt kept making comments about my weight. So I asked her about her divorce.

I have this aunt who has been making passive aggressive comments about my weight for basically as long as I can remember and it's honestly exhausting. Every single family gathering without fail she finds a way to bring it up in front of other people like it's completely normal to comment on someone's body like that.

At a wedding last summer, she walked up to me and said really loudly so that everyone nearby could hear "oh you've gained weight since I last saw you, you used to be so skinny" and I could feel people turning to look at us and I was just so tired of it.

I have dealt with this for years and I have tried ignoring her and I have tried changing the subject and nothing ever worked. So this time I decided to try something different.

I just smiled at her and said "you're right, I have gained some weight, but I'm happy and that's what matters to me. how are you doing since the divorce? I heard it was really hard on you and I've been thinking about you."

Her face went completely pale and she opened her mouth like she wanted to say something but nothing came out and I could see my mom had to hide her laugh behind her hand. The whole table went quiet and everyone was just looking at her waiting for her to say something.

My aunt didn't talk to me for the rest of the night and honestly I was fine with that. And the best part is she hasn't commented on my weight since then.

Maybe it was petty but sometimes you have to give people a taste of their own medicine and I don't really feel bad about it.
