XDJ-AN WLAN Sources

Rant/Speculation

TL:DR WLAN connections to your phone might be the B2B savior for the XDJ-AN.

So I have been reading over the specs page and manual for the XDJ-AN, just trying to understand the decisions Alpha Theta made, and I think there's a lot here that people are not understanding. I also think this is an issue of poor communication by Alpha Theta and their affiliates that got early review units.

  1. This is clearly a bedroom unit meant for familiarizing the entry/intermediate level DJ with the standalone workfolw. Make no mistake about it, they want you streaming and connecting to wireless devices on this bad boy.

  2. Theory: There is only one USB connection for your library because they want you to use your phone and the rekordbox mobile app, or streaming services as your primary sources. USB devices are supplementary and not primary. Clearly this is where the industry is headed, and from what I understand, your iPhone can connect directly to the AN without requiring an internet connection. The documentation specifically mentions LAN(Wireless) AKA WLAN(pg. 12).

So...the real question becomes(and shame on Mojaxx, Phil and Jamie for not trying this), can you connect more than one phone running Rekordbox Mobile app via WAN at a time? This would certainly solve the "B2B" issue everyone is complaining about, you won't need an internet connection and your phones should show up as sources just like the USBs do. Someone with two phones and two rekordbox accounts should test this theory on one of the following devices as they are listed online as supporting this very same feature:

XDJ-AZ

OPUS-QUAD

OMNIS-DUO

XDJ-RX3

XDJ-XZ

Is this going to be how mainstage DJs at EDC connect in the future? No. However, I could see this catching on for much smaller house parties and such in the future.
