Samsung QN90B died – repair or upgrade? (83" OLED, future 5.1.4/7.1.4 & Hue setup)
Hi everyone,
My Samsung QN90B 75" recently stopped working (no power at all). It's currently being repaired, but while I wait I'd like to get some opinions on whether it even makes sense to keep it or use this as an opportunity to upgrade my entire setup.
Current setup
- Samsung QN90B 75"
- Samsung HW-Q935
- Philips Hue Sync TV app
- Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip (75")
- Wall-mounted TV
Room
- Main viewing distance: ~3.5 m (11.5 ft)
- Closest seat: ~2 m (6.5 ft)
- U-shaped seating
- Two small windows opposite the TV (about 7 m away)
- Large open passage to the dining room on the left with another window
Usage
- Netflix and other streaming services
- Movies
- PS5 gaming
- Mostly watching between 4 PM and 2 AM
TV prices available to me (83")
- LG C5 – €2,300
- LG C6 – €3,200
- LG G5 – €3,300
- LG G6 – €4,900
- Samsung S90F – €2,139
- Samsung S95F – €3,640
1. Should I repair or upgrade?
Would you keep the QN90B if it comes back fully repaired, or is moving to an 83" OLED a significant enough upgrade to justify the cost?
2. Which TV would you buy?
Considering the prices above, which would you choose and why? I'm especially interested in real-world experience 😄
3. Hue lighting
Since I'll likely stay with TVs that support the Hue Sync app, I'd also like to improve my lighting setup.
The TV wall is about 5 meters (16.5 ft) wide. Besides the Hue Gradient Lightstrip, what would you recommend?
- Floor lamps?
- Wall washers?
- Hue Play Bars?
- Other lighting ideas?
I'd love to see photos if anyone has a similar setup.
Thanks in advance! 😄
