The Weaponization of Nationalism: Ideological Distortion and Collective Psychological Manipulation
Supremacists utilize ‘nationalism’ for self-serving needs to legitimize their ideologies, distorting its dignified meaning to boost morale and act as a shield for their conscientiousness. They provide followers with the illusion of belonging to a "supreme clique" to mask deep-seated feelings of powerlessness. When their long-constructed narrative is disrupted by reality, they spiral—experiencing resentment, confusion, and loss of control. To cope, they consume propaganda to convince themselves that they are not destabilized.
Oppressive movements weaponize historical despair, manipulating followers by offering a sense of superiority. This has led to selective empathy and emotional desensitization, as followers are conditioned to project their own unresolved grief and fear onto innocent populations. Lacking genuine direction, they cling to the feeling of being "chosen," which rewires their behavior and increases the risk of existential delusion. They will denyingly rage, but their rage is just displaced grief. This is not just theory; it is a personal insight based on direct exposure.
