[ON] English daycare before French school?

Question

We found out today that we got a daycare spot off the city waitlist that is subsidized. We had already found a home daycare spot prior to this as I need to go back to work in September. This is the situation:

Spot 1:
- Home daycare
- $50/day
- Fully French speaking
- Close to our house

Spot 2:
- Centre daycare
- $22/day
- English only
- Further from our house

The difference in cost is the only factor really, but would make a huge difference for us financially.

My husband speaks French to our son at home (12M), but I’m mainly English speaking. He’ll go to a French school come kindergarten. My fear of doing the daycare centre is setting him up for failure in terms of French speaking in a couple years.

Has anyone done English daycare and then French school and their kid thrived? Tell me what was hard or if you would recommend doing this.

I think I’m leaning towards staying with the French, but I need to be honest that cost is a big factor 😥
