Do you feel like you have to “convince” your doctors that you need help?

Health & Wellness 🍎

I’m currently going through an issue where my cycle has been going for almost two weeks now, after not having a period for almost a year. I’ve been into urgent care, the emergency room & had a appointment with the OBGYN, and they’ve all been incredibly dismissive and are plying me with birth control that I don’t really want to be on and is giving me side affects.

I just feel like every time I go to the doctor even outside of this instance, I’m hyper aware of my skin color and I always feel like I have to build a unshakable case in order to get help. Like I get anxiety going in knowing that if it’s not very apparent what is wrong that I’ll have to fight to be heard.

It’s been extremely depressing these last two weeks how doctors (there was one white woman, one Asian man and a white men who saw me) just send me home and brush off all my issues, I’ve nearly passed out during a cold shower and one of the men were like oh it’s probably cause the shower was hot and wouldn’t engage with me about my symptoms only saying I need to take the birth control.

The other male doctor was like stopping the bleeding is more important that discovering the cause (because I asked for them to run tests to see what’s going on) and he said he wouldn’t do a biopsy cause I’m “29 not 39”

I guess I’m just venting at this point, but I just feel like it shouldn’t be this hard to get real care. I shouldn’t have to feel like I’m my own lawyer to get care! Everytime I go they make me feel small or like I don’t exist.
