I just won $245,000 from a lottery ticket and I have no idea what to do
No I'm not joking. and yes its also tax free where i live. I randomly bought a lottery ticket with my soda at the gas station a couple hours ago and the surge of adrenaline from seeing a win that big literally make my eyes feel like they were gonna squeeze out my head. I was literally shaking so much I could barely type into my phone to pull up chatgpt and ask what do next. I genuinely feel like i'm in a dream but it's almost stressful but like obviously exciting. I know it's not generational wealth money, so even though I haven't cashed out the money yet (I will do so after telling my parents) I am already planning on what to do with this money and I have no idea what to do. I never thought i'd open reddit to ask for advice on this but i've never handled this much money and i dont want to blow this once in a life time opportunity. my prayers have been answered and I dont want to mess it up. A few notable things I'd love to spend the money on but im not sure if i can do all of it and i dont know what to prioritize.
- paying off some or all of my sisters student loans (roughly 40k i think?)
- paying off some of my parents major debts like mortage (i think we owe over 200k on the house)
- giving my other sister and her fiance some money for their house they want to buy (they've been saving, but houses are so expensive)
- i would love to take myself and my family on vacation. we haven't been on one in over 10 years
- my mother has a 6 thousand dollar owing on a dental surgery that needs to be paid
- I want to go to college out of province and move out, not sure how smart that is since 250k isnt exactly an immense, never work again, amount.
any advice could be useful. im having trouble finding people in similar situations and i havent yet cashed out my earnings so i cant pay for an advisor right now. this is not a joke post. im very happy but immenslty stressed because i have never seen this amount of money in my life. I have heard stories of people who blow all of their money and completely fumble a win. i am 20f so im not exactly familiar with any of this. any advice is appreciated.
