Old Greymanes - Rules Question and Advice
Hi Everyone,
I had a rules question on the Old Greymanes ability to split Grey Hunters. If you attach a character to a unit of Grey Hunters, can you still split the unit?
I've found that five grey hunters struggle to kill things and even though they can out OC a unit, they often won't kill the unit on the objective. I feel that adding a Wolf Guard Battle leader will both boost the damage of the unit, but he will also receive a nice buff from re-rolling wounds on his thunder hammer.
The rules for Old Greymanes state in the "Declare Battle Formations Step, you can split a friendly Grey Hunters Unit into two units, each with a starting strength of 5." With the new edition I know that leaders also select which bodyguard unit they will attach to in the muster armies' section before the game starts. Rules as written I was not sure if you would be allowed to attach a character as when you split the unit, you cannot have "two units with a starting strength of 5." I have not seen many lists posted with attached charters so wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Separately curious if people have had any success in Veterans of the Fang with SAGA of the Great Wolf. Currently experimenting with a few less terminators and more grey hunters to fill the gap. I think the ability to drop 15 OC on a point is great I'm just trying to find a way to up the damage a little and think character support might be the trick.
Right now, I'm leaning most towards Wolf Guard Battle Leaders just for the damage buff but new to the Grey Hunters bandwagon so I'm sure there are lot of combos!
Thanks!
