Accessibility Feedback: Please Consider an Optional Arachnophobia Mode for Story Content
Hi everyone.
I'd like to share some feedback about an accessibility issue that I hope the developers will consider.
I have severe arachnophobia. Until I reached the Crimson Palace in 999 Nights, there weren't any spider enemies in that mode at all. Then, without any warning, I suddenly encountered wave after wave of spider-like enemies.
For many players this may simply be an uncomfortable or scary moment. For someone with a severe phobia, however, it can become a genuine accessibility barrier.
I tried to keep playing by only looking at the screen when I needed to check for the next wave of enemies, but I still ended up shaking. Even after closing the game, I couldn't calm down for quite a while because I kept feeling as if something was crawling on my leg. Since then, I haven't been able to bring myself to return to that mode.
The biggest problem is that this isn't just optional content.
The 999 Nights questline is listed as an Episode in the main story, and completing it rewards progression materials for the protagonist. This means it isn't just optional side content—it's part of the game's main narrative. For players like me, a severe phobia can effectively prevent us from continuing the story—not because we don't want to play it, but because we simply can't comfortably get through this section.
After my previous post, two other players shared similar experiences. One also has severe arachnophobia and said the spiders in the castle frightened them as well. Another player described freezing when they first encountered the spiders, avoiding looking at them during combat, and even temporarily stopping opening chests because of the spider jumpscares.
I'm not asking for spiders to be removed from the game or changed for everyone.
I'm simply asking the developers to consider an optional arachnophobia mode, similar to accessibility options available in some other games. Replacing spider-like enemies with alternative models would allow players with severe arachnophobia to experience exactly the same gameplay and story without affecting anyone else's experience.
I genuinely love Neverness to Everness. I love its world, its characters, and especially its story. That's exactly why I'm writing this. I don't want a phobia to become the reason I have to stop playing a game I truly enjoy.
Would you support an optional accessibility setting like this?
