Many people of average intelligence tell lies that can easily be disproven

I’ve observed this in the workplace a lot. They also put significant effort into attempting to discredit people “junior” to them they perceive as an intellectual threat. Costs countless hours of productivity loss. Do most large workplaces have this behind the scenes circus going on? What are others’ experiences?
