Announcing Hermes Uplink: A seamless, lightweight way to direct your primary Hermes from anywhere

Infra / Hosting - VPS, Docker, Coolify, Proxmox, Remote, uptime

My main Hermes runs on a desktop at home, and that's where my hardware, locally-hosted models, projects, datasets, and skills live. I'm not always at that machine though, and when I'm out or just on my phone I want to reach the same agent, the same sessions, and the same environment/capabilities, not set up separate clones.

The existing options didn't really fit:

  • WebUIs like Open WebUI run their own agent, so you lose your desktop sessions, some are pinned to older Hermes versions or expect WSL/Docker.
  • Screen sharing eats bandwidth and is rough on a phone. I don't want to be burning mobile data to watch text (for ants) scroll.
  • Syncing massive datasets and environments onto a laptop before every trip isn't practical.

Hermes Uplink is a thin, text-only remote client. One script on your desktop exposes Hermes's native API through a Tailscale Funnel, which gives you a static URL (free Tailscale account needed). The edge device simply opens that URL in any modern browser.

What it gives you:

  • Your actual desktop/primary Hermes. All existing CLI/Electron sessions are there and resumable.
  • The client is a single web page, served to your browser. No app, no source files, nothing to install/compile.
  • It only refreshes when the tab is in focus, so it's light on phone battery. No continuous background polling.
  • Secured behind a generated passphrase with the API key kept server-side. Potentially dangerous! Treat it like a full-access password to your whole PC!

I've been using it to keep an eye on and directing training runs from my commute. Setup lives entirely on the host: it runs natively on Windows, just double click one batch file.

Open source under MIT. Github Repo.

Still early in development, but reached MVP status. Open to questions, feedback, and contributions.
