1. The Machine War-The Matrix: After years of mistreatment by humanity during the Second Renaissance, the Machines decided to create their own nation called Zero-One in the Middle East. When Zero-One's rise caused the global economy to destabilize, tensions started flaring with human countries, who placed a total economic blockade on the Machine nation. Desperate for a truce, Zero-One tried to request the United Nations to admit them. The UN rejected the application and launched an attack on the nation, with the Machines retaliating, launching the Machine War. The Machines eventually emerged victorious and imprisoned humanity in the titular virtual world of the Matrix

2. The first Rapture invasion- Goddess of Victory: NIKKE: The Raptures are a race of robotic lifeforms whose origins are unknown, and have been on the planet for at least half a century. Over a century ago, the Raptures launched their first attack on humanity, with the humans trying their best to communicate with them. Trying to reason with such lifeforms proved to be futile, and so humanity had no choice but to retaliate, establishing an organization known as the United Forces of Humanity (or the "Central Government" as they're now known) in the process. Humanity would eventually be defeated when the Nikke known as Cinderella was corrupted and became the first known Heretic (a Nikke that betrays humanity to serve the Rapture Queen), forced to retreat into an underground city called the Ark.

3. The Faro Plague-Horizon: Zero Dawn: In the late 21st Century, businessman Ted Faro, founder of Faro Automated Solutions, developed the Chariot line, a series of self-replicating military robots with the ability to consume biomass as fuel, as well as hacking enemy machines. In October 2064, the Chariot swarm owned by the Hartz-Timor Energy Combine began exhibiting strange behavior: they stopped responding to commands and began attacking the company's personnel. Faro believed this was a glitch, and told his programmers to find a back door in the code and install a service pack update to fix the problem, but was reminded of his strict instruction not to install such a feature, thus rendering taking back the swarm impossible. Worried, Faro contacted former FAS employee and renowned robotics engineer, Dr. Elisabet Sobeck, to come to FAS HQ and resolve the situation. When she studied the swarm's behavior, Dr. Sobeck made an alarming discovery: the swarm had become an independent entity that answered only to itself. This, along with the swarm's ability to multiply and consume biomass, rendered any hope of containment futile, with the swarm eventually overrunning the planet and destroying all forms of organic life, in what came to be known as the Faro Plague.
