Looking for direction to learn Impact of Tarot

Ok, so sorry for the misleading title, but I wasn't really sure the best way to ask this question.

I know I can look up the meaning of the cards, and usually their inference is contextual in regards to the questions asked and the other cards laid with it. I think what I'd love to know is more source material about Tarot origins?

I'm trying to understand the "game" rather than any specific readings. If I had a reading as a kid, and I have a reading now, and I have a reading 10 years from now, how could the collective power of my answers tell a story.

Where would I even begin to look? (Sorry if this is super confusing, but thanks!)
