Is there still a place for me in Magic if I hate EDH and UB?

So, when I started playing Magic (2016) EDH was a casual way to unwind after a draft or event. People had decks of all kinds of power levels, and keeping track of things in a multi-player game was pretty easy. Most of the time, if I did play it, it was after Modern FNM or draft. I took a break from the game after Universes Beyond went black border because I just have no interest in playing against [[Glenn]] from The Walking Dead or [[SpongeBob]], unless I'm getting to play cards like [[Old Fogey]]. Not to mention all the crazy complicated effects that have been printed recently, that just make commander a slog for me.

After playing tons of MTGO and Arena the past couple years, I decided that it might be time to pull out my old Modern Storm deck, grab some upgrades to make it more competitive, and roll up to FNM... only to find out that all 4 major game stores in my city only do Commander FNM. It's all good, whatever, I figured I'd go to a Modern night or two with my old deck and jam some drafts, but all people are drafting is Marvel. I thought I'd grab a box of Secrets of Strixhaven to draft, but no way in hell am I paying almost $200 a box for a set I don't really care about and haven't drafted before. I can handle spending $800 or more on a deck, but I'm not about to spend that much just to draft 8 times and sell the cards after.

Maybe pre-modern is what I'm looking for? But I can't seem to find any events for it.
