Have you ever had someone try to recruit you to a cult on the Island?

DISCUSSION

I will preface this by saying I believe in everyone's right to have a belief system as long as a) it is not harmful to anyone, and b) it is not imposed on anyone.

Have you ever had anyone try to recruit you to a cult on the island? I am talking beyond the door knocking Watchtower organization.

I live in Nanaimo (new account, can't post there yet) and was recently invited to a "women's group" by an acquaintance, which was described only as such, no religious context.

Always open to meeting new people, and thinking the acquaintance was pretty cool, I agreed to go.

There was a crafting activity and myself and the gal I went with soon realized we were the only ones who weren't referring to a deity. We made "vision boards" and I noticed there was some weird coding on the back of the guidance page on how to put together our vision board. We were prayed over at the end. I am an athiest and study cults a hobby so was freaked out AF.

Through research I have nailed down the more-than-likely sect it was (won't name cos it is freaky), but seems to be active in Nanaimo and across the island.

Has anyone ever had similar experiences? It's no secret that the island is a cult magnet, but have you ever been actively recruited by one?

Again, beyond just the door knockers and Kingdom Hall folks.

Yikes!
