Debit card details stolen and used to make fraudulent charges

Question about law

I'm in central Kentucky, recently I had my debit card details stolen and whoever did it racked up $54 over a bunch of small charges. Fortunately I'm in a position where this amount won't really cause any problems with my budget and the bank said I'm likely to get it back anyway. The bank said they will be calling around to the locations where my card was used (they were all local) to see their camera footage of the transactions (they were all big corporations franchise locations) For my own curiosity, what kind of trouble is this person likely to be in if they are caught?
