How can I get tested for iron deficiency/fa9r dam?

I have had mild symptoms of iron deficiency (shaky hands, cold fingers/toes in the winter/ getting tired quickly during exercise....) since like 6 years or more, but I have never bothered to get checked, as it doesn't really hinder anything important. However, now I want to get rid of the uncertainty and check to see if it's actual iron deficiency or something else.

The problem is our family is the type to almost never consult a doctor so i have no idea where to start. Should I simply go to a lab and get my blood tested? or do I have to consult a doctor first? if so which kind of doctor? how does the procedure go? how much will it cost?
