Is pointing out obvious things a sign of low intelligence?

I notice that i sometimes point out obvious things and my father gets visibly frustrated whenever I do it. For example, we were sitting in traffic once and I said "theres a lot of traffic huh?" And his voice sounded annoyed and he said yes to me. Another time he was cutting some mangos and I said "so youre trying to use up all of the mangos?" And he sighed and said yes and then my name.

Why does my father get frustrated when I do this? Is what i did something that normal people do or is it a sign of low intelligence?
