Is the middle of July usually slow for hiring?

Even though I am working a seasonal job, I'm also looking for a more permanent job. But so I haven't found anything that stuck or called me for an interview at least. I know the job market isn't very good right now, but this particular time of summer feels very slow and dead in terms of job opportunities.

I also have finally decided to move away from retail and especially cashiering, so I have been looking to transition into another job field, but I worry that it will be tricky moving out of retail because it's what I have the most experience in
