Performance air filter worth it?

I have a g20 330i and was wondering if getting a K&N performance air filter would be worth it if my car is at 50k miles and might get a cold air intake in 8 months? The air filter that is on there is probably dirty, is getting a performance air filter worth it for 8 months?
