HELP! Water and Apples for deer?!

General Questions

Hi, I just want to know if I just made a supreme mistake (when I swear I mean no harm); there's a handful of does that cross through my grandmother's yard to graze along the fenceline that divides their property with the neighbors. We live right on the edge of a solid patch of woods, so it's not unusual to have deer/foxes/raccoons/etc putter around. It's getting stupidly hot out, and I'm not familiar with the layout of the land to know where the nearest water source is - there is/was a creek, but there's a high chance it could have dried up. There is a pond within walking distance, but it looks really gross and has a steep shoreline (I don't want them to slip and fall in).

My little cousins have this little plastic water table thing similar to this. I've been filling it with water for a few days now, but I have yet to see them use it. I did some research and found that deer like apples (so long as you don't feed them to them on a regular basis due to high sugar content/don't want them to develop a dependency). So I chopped up a little bit of apple and scattered some pieces around it to hopefully get them to notice it? I'm not a hunter and don't plan on feeding them regularly; in all honesty, I'm just trying to lure them to the water, I'm not going to run the risk of dependency.

I can't seem to find any reliable sources on the dos/don't of feeding deer/how certain thinga affect them, so I come to you asking for help. Do I need to go back outside and pick up all the pieces I put out, or will they be okay as long as it's just this once (both in regard to the water and the apples). Thank you X_X
