Looking for book recs — fast-paced, character-driven, light on description
Hi! Looking for recommendations. Genre isn't really my filter, I read literary fiction, thrillers, fantasy, romance. What decides it for me is the writing.
Books I've loved:
If He Had Been with Me — Laura Nowlin
The Way I Used to Be — Amber Smith
A Little Life — Hanya Yanagihara
It Ends with Us — Colleen Hoover
People We Meet on Vacation — Emily Henry
Addicted to You — Krista & Becca Ritchie
Books that didn't work for me:
Lightlark, The Wedding People — far too slow
Twisted Love — too toxic for my taste
Binding 13 — the plot moved fine, but nothing about it felt believable to me
What I'm after:
Something that pulls me in fast, no long runway
Very little description, long descriptive passages lose me completely
Flawed, believable characters who actually develop, no perfect protagonists
No drama for the sake of drama
Not for me: enemies-to-lovers, bad boy love interests, general cringe.
One more thing. When a book does take on something heavy, I want it handled by someone who clearly understands it, not trauma used as a device to make the story more interesting. That's usually what makes a book stay with me. But I read plenty of lighter stuff too and enjoy it, so send those as well.
