Starting last Wednesday, I discovered one of these very small mites on my arm only because it happened to hit one of my hairs just the right way to feel it. Then that Thursday, I discovered two more on my computer monitor in the next room. Friday morning, I found about 5 more in my bed (upper half closest to the headboard), including one that had freshly bitten blood from me (it broke apart bright red) and another that had a little while before (it broke apart brownish red).

They are VERY small, about 0.5mm or less in size. At first I was concerned they were bed bug nymphs, and I did a thorough inspection of my bedroom. I found no signs of more mature bed bugs, nor eggs or anything else. I isolated any nearby laundry and linens and then carpet powder+ vacuumed, then steamed my mattress twice over along with the carpets, rugs, and all furniture.

I am now more suspecting that these are bird/rodent mites that I may have picked up somewhere and brought in, or that might be from my apartment building since we get a lot of crows, squirrels, mice, etc around the neighborhood. This would explain their size and why they bit me - but won’t survive - along with scale of presence.

This was the best I could do to image them, two different individuals imaged at 20x magnification on an imaging microscope. They are too small for my phone camera to capture directly. Hoping someone can identify and maybe ease my worries
