Finally making head way on xcom2 wotc for the first time
So i am not new to xcom as a series, played the original back in the 90s as a kid (never truely got my head around it but still kept trying). Played enemy unknown and enemy within when they first came out and was able to beat both on legendary difficulty after more tries than i care to admit (although never managed ironman run). Brought xcom 2 and wotc earlier this year having never played them, and went into my first run on veteran difficulty thinking i played the others i will be ok... oh how wrong i was... felt very over whelmed by how much stuff happens at the very start of the game and then came the assassin... it wiped the floor with me each time i tried. After a few restarts never geting much further than the assissan I ended up getting frustrated and took a break from the game for a couple of months.
Broken my leg a week ago and finding myself with a lot of time on my hands i dove back into xcom determined not to let the gods of RNG win... decided to give myself a fighting chance and went normal difficulty this time and i actually started to make progress. Fast forwards to today and i have just beaten the third and final chosen (warlock) in what can be discribed as one of the most comical ways possible.
The assassin gave me a challenge, lost 2 soldiers taking down its hq, the hunter was less of a challenge but i had got tech 3 armour and fully upgraded weapons so was able to do good damage, sneaking out without any losses even if my team was beaten up.
But the warlock, he did not even stand a chance, set up my squad in a position, set them on over watch and moved my sharpshooter in range to trigger the spawn. First shot from my grenadier activated the instant kill mod on the weapon taking him out in 1 hit before he could do anything, i dont usually record game play but i truely wish i had been just to relive the moment again, the first "thats xcom" moment that worked in my favor. The next turn i unloaded everything on the sarcophagus taking it out, ignoring the archon that spawned in at the back of the map out of the way. When the warlock respawned back in the next turn with next to no health he took a shot from my sniper leaving him with 1 hp then teleported besides my ranger who used bladestorm to kill it before it could even lift a finger.
Now i dont have to deal with the chosen i am making headway with the main story... really enjoying the game this time round and fingers crossed the gods of rng have been merciful to an extent.
