Hi everyone, I had an idea for a Lex Luthor video game.

It started with me trying to create a Superman game, with all the overpower that comes with it and the challenge of not being boring. After some consideration, I realized it’s better to focus on Lex Luthor.

Story

General Zod invades Earth with a whole army of Kryptonians. The first level is the player controlling General Zod himself, and fighting against Superman. After you defeat Superman while controlling Zod, the story begins with the Kryptonians capturing the Man of Steel and imprisoning him in a Red Sun jail.

Zod becomes the ruler of the world, and then you start controlling Lex Luthor. You are a solo resistor, using your fortune and kryptonite experience to fight back against Zod and his army. The world is a post-apocalyptic dystopia. Think Terminator Resistance, but with Kyptonians instead of T800’s. Also, those Kryptonians are not as powerful as Superman. You are fighting against Kryptonians with breathing suits. The Man of Steel movie already explained this for us. They possess essentially super strength and laser guns. In the game, the only other Kryptonian who has full Superman powers is General Zod, who is the final boss.

Lex has a secret base, which is essentially a copy of the Batcave. There is a lot of R&D, and you can use resources you collected fighting enemies to craft more powerful weapons and armor, and do research on kryptonians and search for kryptonite.

Gameplay

There are 3 modes, first person shooter with krpytonite bullets, mech control where you play as a hulking machine, and also a “super” gameplay. 

1. FPS with kryptonite bullets: It is essentially Halo, but against kryptonians in space suits. They have super strength and laser pistols.
2. Mech: In comics and cartoons, Lex always shows up in a mech suit. Think Lex Luthor in the Injustice videogames. In this mode, you can shoot from your arms, glide for a limited time, grab objects from the environment to deal damage, and Hulk-charge against your enemies.
3. Super: In this mode, you acquire all of Superman's powers for 60 seconds.

In the Young Justice TV show, Lex Luthor gives Superboy a patch he can use to suppress his human half and be able to use all Superman’s powers, such as heat vision and flight.

In the game, it is something like that. A patch Lex can use to acquire a weaker version of Superman’s powers. You have all the powers of a full Kryptonian, but slightly weaker, and for only 60 seconds. In the game, if you use this rare item, you get super strength, super speed, receive less damage, deal more damage, you can fly, use heat vision, all of it, but for only 60 seconds.

The challenge of the game is to switch between all 3 gameplay modes in a smart way, because if you stay using only one of them, you will lose due to the number of enemies.

Crafting

Between missions and battles, you can go to the Lexcave and use the resources you collected to craft more powerful weapons, armors, healing items, and produce the super patches. Since Lex is a billionaire, it makes no sense to use dollars as currency in this game, so the game’s currency is kryptonite shards.

Finale

The final boss is General Zod. You have to use all your crafted items, acquired weapons, and abilities to defeat a full-blown Kryptonian. After you defeat Zod, you encounter Superman, who is imprisoned in the Red Sun jail.

Here you have two options:

1. Save Superman: This unlocks Superman as a playable character, and you can play as him in the open world, which is full of Kryptonian soldiers.
2. Extract Superman’s DNA, killing him in the process: Lex uses his DNA to acquire all of his powers. Then you can play as Lex, with all of Superman’s powers in the open world.

This choice is essentially a skin change. Whatever you choose, you will be able to play as a full Kryptonian in the open world. It would be basically that GTA 5 Superman mod.

This is still a raw idea, so there’s a lot to test and improve to make sure the game is balanced and not too easy. The most important aspect is that it is fun to play.
