Countries joining Euro (abandoning national currency) - any economical reason for price hikes?

Recent example is Bulgaria which used to have their national currency to be kept 2BGN ~ 1EUR for a long time, this year country abandoned BGN in favour of EUR, and it's great for travellers. But all the prices are now higher.

What might be economical explanation for price hikes, other than greed?
