Residence offer missed as an exchange student

I am an exchange student who recently received an offer of accommodation for a college, but didn't see the email and missed the deadline to accept. The email says that failure to accept an offer is taken as rejection. Is there any way to reverse this? Does this mean I have to look for private accommodation?
