Obsession was never referring Nikki but rather, Bear
TLDR: Bear did not love Nikki, he was obsessed with the idea of her. It was his obsession.
I’m not sure if I’m reaching too much here. But I don’t think obsession was referring to Wish Nikki.
On the surface yes, her whole purpose is Bear. But I’d liken that to a pet. For example, if your dog or a cat always runs up to you, lies next to you, asks for cuddles, or whines when you leave, you would say they are loving, not obsessed. It’s in their nature to be such.
Wish Nikki’s whole purpose being Bear, does not inherently make her obsessed. It is her core nature that he wished for.
I think obsession rather, refers to Bear. While at the start, we may be mistaken for thinking this nice guy loves Nikki, we soon realise he doesn’t actually love her. Rather, he loves the idea of being with her. To the point where he was willing to let the real Nikki stay trapped, and didn’t care how unnatural Wish Nikki was behaving or how much she hurt herself. No one who truly loves someone would’ve let that relationship go for as long as Bear did. Even on the call, at first, he didn’t ask for the wish to be broken. He asked if it could be toned down. He wanted her to be edited to fit him.
Bear did not love Nikki, he was obsessed with the idea of her. It was his obsession.
