I’m Nervous About The Dub (but still excited of course)

so to start, i AM very excited and grateful that it’s getting dubbed!! regardless of what im about to say, im going to watch it and love it.

the official casting released so far is for Ash who is voiced by Brandon McInnis and Eiji who’s voiced by Jonathan Tanigaki.

i watch a lot of dub and have heard a lot of Brandon Mclnnis in particular and he has a very distinctive mid to high register voice.

i absolutely love him and for a lot of people, they could recognize him as Mafuyu from Given or other “softer” characters like Harino from Sasaki and Miyano. he of course does *non* BL stuff (lol) like Gyutaro from Demon Slayer, Sir Nighteye from MHA and much more.

MY PERSONAL observation and opinion is that not matter the character, his voice still holds on the softer side. he’s insanely talented and obviously has amazing control over his voice which i’m excited to see but in my brain, applying any of his voice types i’ve heard so far to Ash, is very…interesting.

as we are probably all aware, voice actors do get somewhat typecast especially in BL and i’m slightly nervous that was part of the casting decision.

i am NOT saying they didn’t cast who they thought was best, what i AM saying is that i’m nervous Ash will have a typical BL type voice and maybe it’s just me, but i PERSONALLY don’t want that or see it fitting his character.

i’m probably just paranoid and know i’m being wayyy too nit-picky because i went to school for vocal training and get wayy too caught up in voices and voice type and i KNOW that’s my own problem but i was wondering if anyone else has thought about this or has an opinion on this too?

i’m also very well aware that if i don’t like the dub, i simply won’t watch it. i feel zero reason to be one of those people to complain about it. i’m also very much not saying that my personal opinion is anyone else’s problem, im genuinely interested in other opinions.

i’m just wondering if anyone else has thought about this as well, and if so, i really wanna know what you think, even if you think i’m wrong!
