How to get better at styling
Salam ladies! Hope everyone is well. I am in need of some advice from some muslim girls with taste- from a mother who is 9 months postpartum, I have recently undergone a self care journey. This includes beginning a regular skin care routine, trying to wear makeup more often (like i use to). Amongst this, I have a haircut booked (I have never had my hair cut professonally before, childhood issues), hydrafacial booked, laser hair removal booked and I wax monthly regardless.
I am also interested in styling myself better too. Growing up as a british pakistani, I was constantly told that shalwar kameez was the only form of dress and that everything else was ‘haram’. After marriage, I begun to explore more with maxi dresses and even that led to a ‘we can see your ankles innyour leggings’ fron my parents. Since starting thsi self care journey I’ve only just realised that alot of the things that my parenrs instilled in me removed some of my autonomy- again, regarding hair, long hair was seen as some sacred thing and I remember my parenrs getting upset that i got it trimmed by my husband. But as a mother and an adult i think- why do i care so much about their opinions?
Anyways, I digress. I’ve managed to explore into the world of maxi dresses and coords however I feel like especially with coords, they require styling to actually look good considering they are plain in itself. I wear black hijbas daily as its low maintence with anything i wear incl shalwar kameez but I’m starting to think maybe it dulls my face and my overall look a little. I do wear it loosely however.
I wear shalwar kameez mainly around my parents because i cba for the comments. I wear maxi dresses and shalwar kameez around my in laws. I wear coords around my friends but ive also started to test the waters with them around my in laws too- they see me as an adult and so dont care.
My wardrobe is quite full however and so I’m unsure as to how to go about buying new things as i have no space. I cant buy another new one due to being in a rented apartment.
Just asking for advice here. What kind of things can i explore more in to that falls in line with modest fashion but also wouldnt get me too many comments from outside people? I know i should t care what people say but mental thing that will take me a while to crack. And what about maybe changing hijab colours? Accessories? I currently wear alot of jewlery anyways all gold which include two rings, two bracelts one on each hand, dangly earrings and three gold necklaces close to my neck.
