Interview Experience

This is how my interview went today. First of all some background:

We were asked to reach by 10AM but the interview happened at almost around 2:10PM. Already tired and was nervous with what may come.

Got in and still had to sat for almost around 20 minutes cause my panel was taking interview of another candidate.

My turn came up at 2:30, I sat there, there were three panelist sitting one was not talking just busy on his laptop. Interviewer 1 (Man) and Interviewer 2 (Woman, HR most prob):

Interviewer 1: Introduce yourself.

Me: Gave my introduction properly this time (in my opinion less stutter and mentioned all the points like most prominent project and problem solving skills and hackathon experience)

Interviewer 1: So you know C?

Me: Yes (Always did DSA in C++ but since I wrote C in resume, I went with it)

Interviewer 1: Write an armstrong number checking program.

Me: Explained it how it works and started writing the code. Now since I don’t remember when I last did C, I faced a little problem but did it.

Interviewer 1: Will Math.pow() work without it’s header?

Me: (Forgot to add math header) No, we need to include math header, included it.

Interviewer 1: What will be the return type of printf()?

Me: (I genuinely didn’t know this.) String…

Interviewer 1: No, it’s char.

Me: Oh, sorry I didn’t know about it. (He was also confidently wrong, it is int, specifically the length of output.)

Interviewer 1: What more do you know outside of coding?

Me: (I thought he was hinting towards core subjects.) Sir I do know DBMS.

Interviewer 1: Ok, how does Inner Join and Left Outer Join works?

Me: Explained it.

Interviewer 1: What is a composite key and primary key?

Me: Explained it.

Interviewer 1: What more do you know outside of engineering?

Me: (I was a little confused, I thought maybe he is asking for some other subjects other than Science, I still don’t know if he wanted to know my hobbies or such or what he wanted.) Sir I do like history.

Interviewer 1: What type of history do you like? Indian? Contemporary?

Me: Western History like American Civil War, French Revolution…

Interviewer 1: Hmm, French revolution… Don’t you like Maths, Physics and Science?

Me: Yes sir, I do like Maths and Physics, you mentioned outside of engineering so I went with history.

Interviewer 1: Ok, what is Boyle’s law?

Me: (I was stunned by this question like bro this is TCS Prime interview, why are you asking question from Higher Secondary????!!!) Sir.., I remember this topic was from my senior secondary, related to gases. I think it was P1V1=P2V2..

Interviewer 1: What is P and V?

Me: Sir it is Pressure and Volume of gas. The product of both remain constant.. (I was just blabbering at this point, I didn’t even know if this Gauss Law or what, this was the only formula that came to my mind at that point)

Interviewer 1: Hmmm,….. yeah it’s.. correct.

Interviewer 2: You mention about your hackathon in IIT Delhi, what was the problem statement about?

Me: Explained about it in detail as far as I could remember.

Interviewer 2: Ok, so a situation based, what will you do if all these technologies you have learnt isn’t used by your organisation and something else is used?

Me: Told how I would instead of panicking about it, start learning about the new technologies and since my fundamentals are clear, it wouldn’t be much of a problem and I could also leverage AI to increase the pace of my learning.

Interviewer 2: Ok so you will use AI?

Me: Yes mam.

Interviewer 2: Ok, thank you.

Me: (That’s it? only 5-6 minutes had passed by that point. I looked at Interviewer 1)

Interviewer 1: Thank you.

Me: Can I go?

Interviewer 1: Yes.

Me: Thank you everyone.
