The anticipation of transferring is killing my anxiety
Ok so just to start out, I (M20) just graduated from a small local community college this past May and I am finally on my way to a public school.
Getting through school had been rough in my life because of all the changes I was forced to go through because of my family and everything that had been going on caused me to become super reserved and anxious. Over the past couple of years I have been making improvements to myself and stepping out of my comfort zone more and more, but I don’t go out much and I have a small group of friends. During CC I spent the first semester in my first major, in which I was kind of stuck with the same group of people due to the specific classes we had to take in that major. I absolutely hated it and switched majors, and eventually switching fully online to work at my job. Judging by all of this you might be able to assume that I haven’t had much social interaction during my time at CC, and now I’m on my way to a WAY bigger school.
Transferring is a huge deal to me and a big switch up from the small little town I’m from, so it’s starting to hit me pretty hard since I’m a little over a month away from moving in. I’m still kind of introverted and I’m not much of a party person (the school I’m transferring to is known for partying), and I get super anxious when meeting new people and struggle to keep up conversations. I just want to enjoy my time at college because I only have two years left. I just want to know what I can do to ease myself and be able to get my confidence up and be more comfortable getting out. I know the obvious answer is (you just need to put yourself out there) but it genuinely is a struggle of mine.
TLDR; I’m super anxious and struggle to make friends, what do I do?
