Is this normal for a Tesco?

I was only at Tesco’s for two days and received a job offer elsewhere so I left. I tried to call my manager but every time I called it was left on voicemail so I just left it. They then called me but I’m working full time so couldn’t answer and then they called my next of kin to ask them where I was. Isn’t next of kin for emergencies, is it normal for jobs to do this especially only after two days? They’ve also sent me 2 letters for a disciplinary meeting, I’m just surprised they’re going through all this effort just because I left, no previous job did this so just wanted to ask if it’s normal to call my next of kin?
