The "First 10 Minutes" Lie: How I trick my brain into running when I absolutely hate the idea of it.

Hey everyone,

I’ve been running for about three years now, and honestly? The hardest part has never been the last mile of a long run. It’s always—without fail—the first 10 minutes.

Before every single run, my brain starts throwing a toddler-level tantrum. “It’s too cold.” “Your knees feel slightly stiff.” “There’s a new show on Netflix.” “You can just do a double run tomorrow (the biggest lie of all).”

Lately, to bypass this mental block, I’ve started playing a stupidly simple game with myself. I call it The 10-Minute Deal.

I tell my brain: "Look, we are going to put on the gear and step outside. We will run for exactly 10 minutes. If, after 10 minutes, we still absolutely hate it and want to die, we can turn around, walk home, and eat snacks guilt-free."

The magic? Once I survive those first 10 awkward, heavy-legged minutes and my heart rate settles, the "runner's high" kicks in. I’ve literally never turned back. Not once.

It made me curious—what is the weirdest, most desperate, or most hilarious mental lie/trick you guys use to force yourselves out the door when your motivation is at absolute zero?

Give me your best mind games, because some days the struggle is way too real!
