Mother escalated modesty comments then dropping it the next day!

S

I'm 27F. I have my own job and money, but where I'm from it's normal and expected for unmarried daughters to live with their parents until marriage.

My mom saw that my abaya (a traditional cloak) was slightly open in the front (you could see my pants underneath) and told me I had to close it all the way for "modesty." I replied, "Thanks for the advice”
And, she said, "It's not advice. It's an order”

That turned into a pretty big argument about how I dress. She said I had to change all my clothes. I told her no, that I already try hard to dress modestly, and that if she kept escalating it I just wouldn't wear an abaya at all. She started screaming, and I left for work.

I was expecting another confrontation the next day, but... nothing. She acted like it never happened. If anything, she's been nicer than usual.

Why would someone go from "this is an order" to completely dropping it the next day???, I can’t wrap my head around it!!!’
