PEG Placement in Elderly and Dementia Pts

NAD - but I am a dietitian working in a hospital setting. I am curious to know how other hospitals handle elderly and dementia pts who stop eating. My team and I are vehemently against PEG placement in this population, but often the doctors are recommending this to these patients, and consulting GI before palliative care can have a conversation with the family.

Do your hospitals have any policies or protocols for these types of patients, or does the decision to offer a PEG depend on the primary doctor? Thank you!
