Grand Duke Maddock had always scoffed at such bardic nonsense. He’d never felt that kind of love in his life, no matter how charming the women who tried to win his attention. He didn’t like the nickname he’d been given, but The Ice Duke suited him. He was a good man, a loyal man, but his heart had never warmed to anyone. And with demon incursions to repel and a king’s peace to protect, he doubted it ever would.
Until the day a woman outfitted in black full-plate armor jumped the lines of his army.
She didn’t come for him. She didn’t come for his soldiers. She came for the demons… thousands upon thousands of them… standing in the valley below.
