Unmedicated Pregnancy

I was diagnosed with RA shortly after my first child was born about three years ago. Since then I have failed seven medications due to allergic reactions, but have settled on Rinvoq which has worked fairly well for me.

Today I had my check in with my Rheumatologist and let her know my husband and I would like to start trying for another. When looking at my history she seemed perplexed and noted that I have failed all the RA meds that have been deemed “safe” for pregnancy (Cimzia, sulfasalazine, hydroxychloroquine) and seemed and though she was going to advise against having another.

I informed her that if it’s my only option, I will go into it unmedicated then, which she said she has never had a patient do before. I am also on low dose naltrexone prescribed by another physician (integrative medicine) and feel as though as long as I can have an anti-inflammatory in my back pocket I will be okay (however I’m unsure if that physician will say I can stay on it or not yet.

Anyways - has anyone ever gone into pregnancy unmediated before? I’m curious to hear what it was like and how flares were managed once conceiving. I know sometimes the immune system naturally suppresses itself which can create at least a temporary remission. Am I totally crazy for thinking I’ll be okay doing this?? How quickly did RA symptoms come back after delivery?
