Dispatch operator
Hi everyone. I am a recent university graduate and I am starting a role as a police dispatch operator at GMP.
I would love to hear from people who have done this job.
What does the role actually involve on a day to day basis? Is it a difficult job? I know it must be mentally draining, but is it mostly straightforward if you just follow the systems and protocols?
I do not mind being told what to do or acting like a robot if that is what the job requires.
Also, is this role very different from being a call handler who takes 999 calls?
What are some genuine tips for someone just starting out? I am planning to just stay quiet, listen, and absorb everything while I am new. I want to be professional and reliable rather than worried about being liked.
Any advice would be appreciated.
