Nobody prepares you for how quickly pets become family.

When people talk about getting a pet, they usually talk about the responsibilities.

The training. The walks. The vet visits. The chewed-up shoes. The early mornings.

All of that is true.

What nobody really talks about is how quietly they become part of your everyday life.

One day they're just the new dog or cat in the house.

A few months later, you catch yourself wondering if they've eaten before you've even thought about your own dinner. You save the last bite of chicken because they'll probably want it. You instinctively look for them when you get home. Your camera roll slowly becomes 90% photos of them doing absolutely nothing.

It doesn't happen all at once.

There isn't a single moment where you think, "They're family now."

It just sneaks up on you.

Then one day, someone refers to them as "just a pet," and you realize that's not how you see them at all.

When did you first realize your pet had become part of the family?
