keeping ground floor apartments smelling fresh during summer? (my window faces a trash alley)

My apartment is on the ground floor. My bedroom has one window which has a AC unit in it. My window faces directly into an alley full of trash cans, which STINK during the summer.

I feel like the air in my room never smells fresh. In my old building (I lived on the 8th floor) I could crack a window open and let the space breathe. I have a candle warmer and a B&BW diffuser but i still don’t think it’s helping much, besides the fact that it’s way too hot to go without AC right now.

does anyone have any tips for this unfortunate situation? thanks in advance!
