Is it normal to only be able to bend your knee about 45° with a suspected meniscus tear?

I injured my knee on the 10th while at jiu jitsu. Based on my exam at ER, my doctor suspects a meniscus tear, but they couldn’t grade the injury because I had a large joint effusion, which made the exam difficult. My X-rays were otherwise unremarkable.

The biggest thing worrying me is that I can only bend my knee to about 45 degrees before I hit severe pain and it feels blocked. It’s not just stiffness. It feels like something is stopping it from bending any further. I can bear some weight, and walking is started to get easier although there’s still stiffness and after awhile I’ll get pain on the lateral aspect. My knee has given out a couple of times and will randomly buckle(?) while I’m walking? It almost feels like it’s caving inward/backward if that makes sense.

I’m currently waiting to see a sports medicine physician and understand I won’t know the extent of the injury until I have further imaging or assessment but i’m just wondering if anyone else with a meniscus tear experienced this level of loss of motion, especially being limited to only about 45° of flexion. I’m not looking for a diagnosis, just hoping to hear others experiences while I wait for my appointment.
