Forever cruise planetfall seems to just let you continue forever?

It's in the title. I was testing something and let the situation hit planetfall. When it got there, the origin seemed to just continue functioning? It seemed liked I could just continue indefinitely so long as I could eat the happiness penalties. Am I missing something or do I have it right?
