I built a college hockey GM sim for iOS
Hello! I'm Pete, a solo developer, and I've spent the last while building College Hockey Dynasty, a GM sim for iOS built specifically around what makes this level of the sport different from the NHL: recruiting, the NIL era, and program-building instead of just play-calling.
A few things I tried to get right:
- Recruiting is a personality match, not a spreadsheet. Every prospect weighs your NIL offer, your program's prestige, distance from home, and the role you're promising differently — Bag Chasers, Homebodies, Loyal types, and more. You scout through a real fog of war and win recruiting battles that aren't just "who pays the most."
- Two budgets, because that's how it actually works now. You're juggling revenue share (the House Settlement cap) and a donor-funded NIL collective — two separate wallets with two different jobs.
- A real sim underneath, not a score generator. Four forward lines, three D pairs, real fatigue and line chemistry, special teams, and a live rink view with play-by-play so you can watch the game happen.
- NPI: Rankings, conference tournaments, and the NCAA Tournament field all run on the NCAA Percentage Index.
No licensed teams or real players in the base game — every program and prospect is fictional, so nothing here depends on a license that could disappear. There will be an optional one-time premium add-on that everyone can purchase if they want to create and share community teams and rosters.
I'm building this alone, so this subreddit is where I want the actual hardcore college hockey crowd to poke holes in it — terminology, rules, realism, whatever I got wrong. I'll be around answering questions.
I'll update this post with TestFlight and/or App Store links whenever they are available.
In the meantime, you can review the game guide at https://collegehockeydynasty.com/guide.
