Fiction and Non-fiction for a former reader looking to get educated. Particularly interested in Philosophy and Cultural Analysis.

Essentially I am asking for suggestions to broaden my mind and inform me about the world and the society I live in.

As a child I read obsessively but it was mainly lower end children's fiction, comics and airport thrillers.

My main interests in Non-fiction are philosophy, the history of thought, politics and cultural analysis. I think those are the best ways of describing it.

I want to understand how and why people, cultures and societies see the world, understand reality and how to live a good life.

In fiction, i want to broaden my understanding of human interior life, thoughts, emotions and struggles.

I'm interested also in beginning to work my way through the western (and if applicable Eastern) Canon.

Any suggestions?
