Outside Sales vs Management
Just had a discussion with my team leaders regarding my future at my agency. I am an inside sales member at a fairly large agency in New England so doing leg work for quotes is pretty nonexistent - it's pretty comfy but challenging at the same time with the amount of quotes I do weekly - all renewals go to the agency so that is a downside. We do P&C and NO life or health insurance.
I was presented an opportunity that seems to be a fork in the road:
- go to outside sales
- go to management/team leader for inside
For outside sales, I will need to generate my own leads/sources which I do not have much currently as it's really not needed. My base pay would be decent the first year and 2nd year would be quite low as I should have a decent book/streamline created by then.
For Management, the pay will be consistent or more than what I am making this year. However, the bonuses and future pay structure are unknown as this is still an idea. I would need to go into office pretty consistently and I do have an 1.5hr commute each way. no more quoting new business.
I'm a simpleton and picture both options as follows: Outside sales would mean a bit more leg work and entrepreneurial focused but overall higher potential for earning/renewals. Management would be more of a career builder type of position if I ever decided to leave (which I have 0 plans to as I love where I work).
Just seeing if anyone can give me a bit of insight as I explore both options.
