Next Change from the Rebranding Campaign?
One of the most intense rebranding campaigns of a corporation began with the president and Mormon prophet stating plainly “it is not rebranding”.
From that time the Mormon church has been trying to rebrand as a mainstream Christian church by adopting symbols and traditions it once condemned (like Holy Week and crosses) but still trying to hold on to some of their other traditions like worshiping the brethren by way of blind obedience (“when the prophet speaks, the thinking is done”).
As the campaign continues, I think the next phase will be an emphasis on blind obedience/ leadership worship at the local levels.
There has been a massive focus on calling people (especially those in leadership) by their titles. The local leaders are treated more and more like celebrities and their decisions are the final say, not to be questioned.
I also feel that unique Mormon doctrines will continue to fade into the memory hole. Especially with Sunday classes being shortened, it will only provide time for surface level discussions.
What other changes have you seen or currently seeing from the Mormon church’s rebranding campaign?
