how to fix krause rings which are really stiff/hard to close?

has anybody had this issue before? i have a pocket rings with krause rings and the rings are super stiff and is tough to press together and close. i can open them with the tabs just fine but closing them is a different story. i know they're more stiff than usual because i have another ring binder with krause rings and those ones open and close very easily.
